Wayland Smith Goalpost H Beam Structure for Lifting

Wayland Smith Beam Project

Scorpio Engineering Services is the engineering company who has manufactured the below metal artifact. The below "goalpost" structure as Mr Chia, owner of Scorpio playfully calls it is actually a Lifting Beam with Column Support , meaning its a structure used to lower and raise heavy objects. This Beam will be fixed onto a 2nd Basement which will operate and lower and raise objects 3rd Basement. This beam is being used for a theatre in Singapore

The height is 3m and the H Beam used is a 8 x 8. Seperated into 3 major parts, 2 legs and 1 across, Mr Chia has manufactured a solid structure. The weight of just one leg is around 200+kg. The whole construct should be close to 600kg.
We can see the gussat made from diagonal brace connecting the across beam to the leg, that was custom made by Mr Chia from a Square Hollow Section and he fabricated the small flat platforms at the side as to secure the beams
Note the corners, Mr Chia made sure that all corners are not sharp so the installation process will not be affected by any potential cuts or injury. Also note how the 2 beams are secured by the nuts and bolts perfectly with no gap. A really solid workmanship show piece.

The above beam (Top Across Beam) is actually 2 beams, Mr Chia cut 2 pieces of Beam and joined them together with an interlocking pattern to make sure that it is strong. Note the high welding skill level. This beam is solid and able to do job of holding heavy and large objects without a problem
